Scott Richardson joined the Schmiedeskamp team as an of counsel member in 2016. Scott brings with him 19 years of experience in patent prosecution focused on preparation and procurement of patents for companies and inventors from small start-ups to Fortune 500 companies nationwide. Scott’s background as an electrical engineer and United States Patent Examiner helped him develop a unique ability to understand his clients’ strategies and goals.
Scott began his career as an electrical engineer in Los Angeles for Hughes Aircraft Corporation focusing on radar and military communication systems. Scott moved to the Washington D.C. area and was a defense consultant for four years before joining the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as a patent examiner. He examined patents in the first art unit dedicated to the cellular telephone industry. Scott also examined patent applications in the speech signal processing art, better known as speech recognition. After graduating from George Mason University School of Law, he joined the patent law firm of Burns Doane Swecker & Mathis (now part of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney), and then worked as In-House Patent Counsel for Gateway Computers. For the past several years, Scott has practiced with the Brevetto Law Group working on patent matters with Fortune 500 companies. In 2008, Scott wanted a change of scenery and moved his practice from Washington D.C. to Quincy to raise his family. “Quincy Truly is a gem of a little city – a great place to live and raise a family.”
