James A. Hansen focuses his practice on litigation, primarily medical malpractice defense, commercial litigation, construction litigation, and personal injury/wrongful death claims. He has represented both publicly and privately held manufacturing companies, agribusinesses, general and sub-contractors, hospitals, physicians and insurance carriers in litigation matters in state and federal courts throughout the United States. He has taken cases to jury verdict in both Illinois and Missouri in addition to numerous bench trials, mediations and arbitrations throughout the region and country. Jim was counsel for the plaintiff in the largest recorded plaintiff's personal injury settlement in Adams County history and has defended more than one of the largest defense cases taken to trial in Adams County as well.
In addition to his practice, Jim is actively involved in the Illinois State Bar Association currently serving on the assembly as the representative for the 8th judicial circuit. He previously served on the Insurance Law Section Council (past chairman), the Standing Committee on Mentoring (past chairman) and as a speaker at numerous CLE programs. He has published articles in the Illinois Bar Journal and in the ISBA Trial Briefs.
He received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Western Illinois University where he was a member of the university’s football team earning two letters as a starting offensive lineman his junior and senior seasons. His senior season he was named first team all conference and a COSIDA Academic All-American.
