James A. Hansen focuses his practice on litigation, primarily complex trial work involving medical malpractice defense, commercial litigation, construction litigation, and personal injury/wrongful death claims. He has represented hospitals, nurses, and physicians in defense of lawsuits involving allegations of medical negligence and administrative licensing cases and hearings. He has handled litigation matters for both publicly and privately held manufacturing companies, agribusinesses, general and sub-contractors, and insurance carriers in state and federal courts throughout the United States. He also represents municipalities in defense of claims involving allegations of constitutional violations. He has taken numerous cases to verdict in both Illinois and throughout Missouri in addition to handling a large amount of bench trials, mediations and arbitrations throughout the region and across the country. Jim's experience on both the plaintiff and defense side gives him unique perspective and expertise in handling client litigation matters. He was counsel for the plaintiff in the largest recorded plaintiff's personal injury settlement in Adams County history and has successfully defended many of the largest defense cases ever taken to trial in Adams County as well.

In addition to his practice, Jim recently was reappointed to serve a three-year term on the Illinois Supreme Court Rules Committee. Jim was actively involved in the Illinois State Bar Association having served on the assembly as the representative for the 8th judicial circuit. He previously served on the Insurance Law Section Council (past chairman), the Standing Committee on Mentoring (past chairman) and as a speaker at numerous CLE programs. He has published articles in the Illinois Bar Journal and in the ISBA Trial Briefs.

He received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Western Illinois University where he was a member of the university’s football team. His senior season he was named first team all-conference and a COSIDA Academic All-American.
